DESCRIPTION:The groundbreaking Formosa Quartet presents their American Mirror Project | A Chicago Mirror\, a concert that reflects on Chicago’s rich yet tangled past\, present\, and future. Its specially curated program is designed to take audiences on a journey through the beloved sounds of the city in a combination of music and spoken word. \n\n\n\nExplore the city’s early beginnings on Native homelands and its history of growth fueled by labor\, unrest\, and poverty; delve into its place as the seedbed of jazz\, blues\, gospel\, and soul; and reflect its vibrant fabric of diversity today. A world premiere piece by Chicago-based composer Paul Novak for string quartet and narration is at the heart of this program\, with original texts written and performed by voices from the Chicago community. \n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nShelley Washington: SAY \n\n\n\nA Chicago Time Machine \n\n\n\nMahalia Jackson (arr. Jeremy Crosmer): “Lord Don’t Move the Mountain” Jelly Roll Morton (arr. Jasmine Lin):  “Jelly Roll Blues” Muddy Waters (arr. Jasmine Lin): “Mannish Boy” Joe Oliver (arr.
