SUMMARY:The Drum Also Sings
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this event does not take place at Guarneri Hall. The venue for this event is Merit School of Music’s Gottlieb Hall (38 S. Peoria St\, Chicago). \n\n\n\nGrammy Award-winning Third Coast Percussion\, praised by BBC Music Magazine for “impressively combining creative fearlessness with reverent precision\,” presents The Drum Also Sings\, an evening that celebrates the boundless possibilities of rhythm and sound. \n\n\n\nThe Drum Also Sings features the world premiere of an NLM-commissioned work by JaRon Brown along with premieres and recent works by today’s leading composers. The program also includes a new piece by TCP ensemble member Robert Dillon\, Andrea Venet’s electrifying Bulldog\, Ivan Trevino’s luminous Watercolor Sun\, and Jessie Montgomery’s striking Study No. 1. Jlin’s driving Derivative\, Alexis Lam’s evocative Matters / Mind\, and a new rhythmic exploration from Augusta Read Thomas further expand the evening’s soundscape\, which culminates in Steve Reich’s iconic Music for Pieces of Wood. Join us at the Merit School of Music’s Gottlieb Hall for a thrilling night where percussion not only pulses — it sings. \n\n\n\nNova Linea Musica serves as a catalyst for the creation and promotion of new music through commissions\, live performances\, and the creation of exceptional audio and video recordings featuring dynamic emerging and established performers. \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nJaRon Brown: and this too\, shall pass (NLM Commission and World Premiere)Robert Dillon: ScoundrelAndrea Venet: BulldogIvan Trevino: Watercolor SunJessie Montgomery: Study No. 1Jlin: DerivativeAugusta Read Thomas: New workSteve Reich: Music for Pieces of WoodAlexis Lamb: Matters \n\n\n\nArtists: Third Coast Percussion—David Skidmore\, Robert Dillion\, Peter Martin\, and Sean Connors \n\n\n\n\n\nGuarneri Hall is committed to ensuring that all our programs and activities are accessible to all audience members.
