Williams returns to Guarneri Hall for Winterreise\, a cycle of 24 songs composed by Schubert in 1827 and set to texts by Wilhelm Müller.  \n\n\n\nIn failing health and nearing the end of his brief life\, Schubert was in a deeply melancholic frame of mind as he composed Winterreise. DESCRIPTION:Grammy-nominated pianist John Novacek brings his deep inside knowledge of ragtime to Guarneri Hall for a solo performance that celebrates this uniquely American style. Syncopated America features wonderfully informed performances of classic rags by Scott Joplin\, Joseph Lamb\, James Scott and others alongside some of Mr. Novacek’s own compositions. Some are incredibly touching\, others raucous fun. SUMMARY:For the Birds: Music of Olivier Messiaen (Mar 29)
DESCRIPTION:The French composer-organist Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was fascinated by birdsong. His field collection of the songs of hundreds of bird species\, meticulously transcribed into musical notation\, would become a vital musical source for Messiaen.  \n\n\n\nFor the Birds explores two of Messiaen’s works most deeply influenced by birdsong: Quartet for the End of Time\, where birds symbolize nature free and unfettered\, and selections from the Catalogue d’oiseaux\, where they evoke rich non-human ecologies within their natural habitats. \n\n\n\nJohn Bates\, Curator of Birds and Section Head of Life Sciences at the Field Museum\, will introduce the program. \n\n\n\nArtists: Daniel Pesca\, piano; Maria Ioudenitch\, violin; Graham Steele Johnson\, clarinet; Alexander Hersh\, cello; John Bates\, guest speaker \n\n\n\nThe program repeats on March 30 at Guarneri Hall.

In a well-designed acoustic space\, every aspect of room geometry\, materials and composition work together to optimize the sound of the room.  \n\n\n\nFor Sound Lab\, Threshold Partner Carl Giegold and Senior Consultant Marcus Mayell will explain the principles of acoustic design that went into the making of Guarneri Hall.
