Tanya Landau, Guest Host

Tanya Landau is a familiar face at Guarneri Hall. From 2023 to 2025, she served as the Hall’s Operations Manager, helping coordinate its growing calendar of performances and recording projects and becoming an integral part of the Guarneri Hall community.

Tanya is a musician and scholar, currently pursuing a PhD in Musicology at Northwestern University. She is part of the Global Politics and Religion cohort and a cluster fellow in Critical Theory. A trained vocalist, she earned her Master’s in Voice Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts in 2023.

Tanya’s research explores the social and political dimensions of traditional folk music, with a particular focus on Calabria in southern Italy. Moving beyond narratives of folkloric preservation, her work traces traditions from the late nineteenth century through the Second World War and considers how they continue to be staged and reimagined by musicians, poets, and activists today. Her scholarship has been published in Rising Voices in Ethnomusicology, with additional articles under review, and she has presented at national and international conferences across the United States, Canada, and Europe, including meetings of the American Musicological Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology. Her broader research interests include Soviet and Post-Soviet music, philosophy, diaspora, and religious studies.
