Rannveig Marta Sarc, Violinist

Icelandic-Slovenian violinist Rannveig Marta Sarc enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher.

Rannveig has appeared as soloist with the Iceland Symphony, Slovene Philharmonic, Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, Iceland Youth Symphony, Orchestra Matutina, “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic and Reykjavik College of Music orchestras, among others. Recent highlights include solo recitals at the Icelandic Embassies in Beijing and Tokyo.

As a chamber musician, she has performed with Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago and attended festivals such as Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, Festival Mozaic, Tallgrass Chamber Music Festival, Open Chamber Music in Prussia Cove, Taos School of Music and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival. She has collaborated with artists such as Natasha Brofsky, Catherine Cho, Timothy Eddy, Frans Helmerson, Thomas Riebl, Laurie Smukler, the Ariel Quartet and performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall.

Rannveig held a one-year position with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and regularly performs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Awards include 2022 Luminarts Classical Strings Fellowship, first prize at the 2021 Musicians Club of Women Scholarship Award and she was voted “Newcomer of the Year” at the 2022 Iceland Music Awards.

Rannveig is an avid performer of contemporary music. As a member of Duo Freyja, she has released two albums of Icelandic duos for violin and viola, commissioned and premiered by the duo.

Rannveig holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where she was a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. Her teachers include Catherine Cho, Laurie Smukler, and Donald Weilerstein.
