Mezzo-soprano Chrystal E. Williams returns to Guarneri Hall as the heartbroken wanderer of Franz Schubert’s poignant song cycle Winterreise, a soul for whom the world is as bleak and lifeless as the depths of winter. Yet passion still torments, and anguish surges. Solace is nowhere to be found. With powerful musical imagery, Schubert portrays the most human of journeys, one we must all face alone: How do we make it through the worst that can happen, and begin to sense the warmth that nurtures the seed of hope?
