Fry Street Quartet plays Clarice Assad

We have two new videos on our YouTube channel this week – the Fry Street Quartet in Movements 5 and 6 of Clarice Assad’s Canções da America, recorded in Guarneri Hall and captured on video by our Creative Director, Mike Grittani.

If you’re not familiar with Clarice Assad, she’s a Grammy Award–nominated Brazilian-American composer, pianist, arranger, singer, and educator from Rio de Janeiro. Her music reflects influences by popular Brazilian culture, Romanticism, world music, and jazz. Assad wrote her Canções da America (“Songs from America”) for the Fry Street Quartet in 2022. This six-movement work embraces fragments of the Milonga dance from Uruguay, the Choro from Brazil, the music of Paraguay, the Argentinian Tango, and an homage to the Andean music of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.

Watch for the remaining four movements of Canções da America in May.
