Alberto Ginastera titled the third movement of his powerful String Quartet No. 1, Op. 20 (1948) Calmo e Poetico (Calm and Poetic). It’s built on a series of rising fourths that levitate the listener into a soulful space in the clouds. In the Fall of 2022, the Soto Quartet gave us a potent reading of this deeply affecting work.
