The groundbreaking Formosa Quartet presents their American Mirror Project | A Chicago Mirror, a concert that reflects on Chicago’s rich yet tangled past, present, and future. Its specially curated program is designed to take audiences on a journey through the beloved sounds of the city in a combination of music and spoken word.
Explore the city’s early beginnings on Native homelands and its history of growth fueled by labor, unrest, and poverty; delve into its place as the seedbed of jazz, blues, gospel, and soul; and reflect its vibrant fabric of diversity today. A world premiere piece by Chicago-based composer Paul Novak for string quartet and narration is at the heart of this program, with original texts written and performed by voices from the Chicago community.
Artists: The Formosa Quartet—Jasmine Lin, violin; David Bernat, violin; Matthew Cohen, viola; Deborah Pae, cello
