NEXUS Chamber Music’s ambitious ninth season presents a dynamic program for string octet, promising an exhilarating and fresh sonic experience for Guarneri Hall. Eight world-renowned musicians will gather in Chicago to collaborate on Shostakovich’s haunting and electrifying Two Pieces for String Octet, concluding the program with the beloved String Octet by the young genius Felix Mendelssohn. In true NEXUS fashion, the program’s centerpiece focuses on the fresh and contemporary with master pianist and composer John Novacek’s Music for 8, which has already gained a foothold as a powerful new standard in the genre.
