Guarneri Hall is delighted to welcome NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago back for this year's four-concert NEXUS Chamber Music Festival. Their first concert, "Call of the Birds," features music by Haydn, Takemitsu, Fauré, Messiaen, and Schumann performed by Brian Hong, violin; Alexi Kenney, violin; Gabriela Lara, violin (fellow); Zoé Martin-Doike, viola; Alexander Hersh, cello; and Victor Asuncion, piano.
The second concert in the 2019 NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago series is entitled "Signs, Games, and Messages." Featured are works by Dvořák, Kurtág, Prokofiev, and Brahms performed by Brian Hong, violin; Alexi Kenney, violin; Zoé Martin-Doike, viola; Alexander Hersh, cello; and Victor Asuncion, piano.
NEXUS' third concert, "Folk Songs in Counterpoint," includes a string quartet by Florence Price, who lived in Chicago and rose to the highest echelon of American composers during the first half of the 20th century. Also programmed are works by Barrière, the Danish String Quart (arr.), Price, and Arensky. Musicians are Brian Hong, violin; Siwoo Kim, violin; Tanner Menees, viola; Brannon Cho, cello; and Alexander Hersh, cello.
The fourth and final concert of the 2019 NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago concert series is entitled "Nocturnal Awakenings." Featured in this concert are works by Boccherini, Webern, Schnittke, and Schubert performed by Brian Hong, violin; Siwoo Kim, violin; Allison Lovera, violin (fellow); Tanner Menees, viola; Brannon Cho, cello; and Alexander Hersh, cello. Guarneri Hall welcomes Anastasiya Ganzenko, First Prize Winner of the 2019 Aeolian Classics Emerging Artist Competition at the Chicago College of Performing Arts. Ms. Ganzenko will be joined by pianists Adam Nieman and Winston Choi in an exciting program including works by Fauré, Debussy, Prokofiev, and others.
Four members of the NEXUS Chamber Music Chicago collective will perform along with Chicago Symphony Orchestra oboist Michael Henoch. Works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Tann in this collaboration between Guarneri Hall and Dempster Street Pro Musica.
Rising star violinist Benjamin Baker, a New Zealand native, and acclaimed young Hungarian pianist Daniel Lebhardt come to Guarneri Hall to play a program spanning three centuries, highlighting Baker’s stylistic range. The program includes works by Mozart, Copland, Cage, and Brahms.
Internationally celebrated rising superstar Drew Petersen, winner of a 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, comes to Guarneri Hall to perform works by Chopin, Schubert, and Granados. The acclaimed 25-year-old American pianist is a sought-after soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Toby Appel, the incomparable violist and Juilliard faculty artist, joins the extraordinary young, prizewinning pianist Drew Petersen in recital in Guarneri Hall. The program includes works by Schumann, Shostakovich, Joachim, Clarke, and Friskin.
Violinist Frank Almond brings Harp Spotlight (part of his acclaimed Milwaukee chamber series, Frankly Music) to Guarneri Hall! Kelsey Molinari, harp, and Marta Aznavoorian, piano, make their Frankly Music and Guarneri Hall debuts, joined by versatile returning cellist Alexander Hersh. Works by Saint-Säens, Vaughan Williams, Robert Schumann, and Salcedo.
